Election 2020: Are Your Students Ready to Take Informed Action?

Prepare your students to act as knowledgeable and informed participants in the 2020 elections whether or not they are old enough to vote.
This session will help you create and sustain an inquiry process that involves an examination of primary sources and teaching strategies for educating your students about the struggle and sacrifices made in the U.S. and internationally to ensure access to the ballots. Analyzing primary sources from around the world and from the free civics interactive Engaging Congress will provide concretes illustrations of this theme.
Presenters and participants will share online resources for your students to explore when looking for their own examples. The session will then move on to showcase a veritable “choice board” of ways for to get your students actively involved in the election process at the local level. Whether you are face-to-face in a traditional classroom or in a remote learning setting, this session will help you prepare your students to take informed action this fall and to be civically engaged!
Available for one-hour of PD credit. A certificate of completion will be available for download at the end of your session that you can submit for your school's or district's approval.
